Childcare Access

Flexible Childcare and the Reality for Working Families

Families need childcare that reflects real working patterns, changing schedules and the pressures of modern family life.

By Ekinadose Ewean Gabriel

Many families do not live within a simple nine-to-five routine. Parents work shifts, study, run businesses, attend appointments, care for relatives, travel between jobs and manage changing schedules. For these families, childcare needs to be reliable, safe and flexible.

Traditional childcare models do not always meet the reality of modern family life. Some parents need early mornings, evenings, school holiday care, emergency childcare, after-school support or occasional sessions. Others need a mixture of nursery, childminder, nanny, holiday club and informal family support.

When childcare is not flexible, families can face difficult choices. Parents may reduce working hours, turn down opportunities, struggle with stress or rely on arrangements that are not ideal. This can affect family income, wellbeing and children’s stability.

Flexible childcare does not mean lowering standards. It means creating systems that are safe, clear, well-managed and responsive to family needs. Families should be able to find trusted providers, understand availability, compare options and book care with confidence.

Providers also need support. Flexibility can be challenging when staffing, ratios, funding and administration are already under pressure. Good childcare solutions must consider both families and providers.

Paradido was created with this reality in mind. We believe families need childcare that works around real life, and providers need systems that help them manage their services effectively.
